Reverse Switch Replacement

If your reverse lights are either not coming on or occasionally flickering on/off while in reverse, this switch in your transmission would be the first item to investigate on your 1st Gen Frontier.

I first unplugged the switch connector and tested continuity between the pins while the transmission was in reverse, but never got a reading. I removed the switch and found that it would only make the proper connection sometimes when pressed in a specific way, so I knew the switch was faulty on my 2003 Nissan Frontier.

You may have to get creative with this switch removal as there isn't a ton of space to work with. I tried a 19mm crows wrench, but it was too thick to fit around the switch, so I purchased a stubby wrench set, cut the 19mm wrench down to 3 1/4 inches long, and used an angle grinder to cut a slot for the wires to go through.

Please don't purchase the cheapest switch you can find, because some of the aftermarket ones don't reach far enough into the transmission to make contact with the reverse pressure indicator. I would instead recommend getting this OEM part from somewhere such as nissanpartsdeal.com.
